A Range Rover Sport recall now covers 95 SUVs in Australia, after two Jaguar Land Rover Australia notices for cracks in the rear subframe were published on 14 October 2026. Both notices sit on the federal Vehicle Recalls website and both list a 2023 to 2026 year range.
Most of the affected cars are SV models. If you own one, have one on order, or are looking at a used example, the steps below matter more than the headline number.
Two Range Rover Sport recall notices, one structural fault
The larger campaign, D166 (REC-006744), covers 94 Range Rover Sport SV vehicles. The regulator identifies a manufacturing defect: the rear subframe can contain cracks that grow, leaving the vehicle's structure weaker.
Owners in that group will be contacted by Jaguar Land Rover for an inspection. If cracks are found, the repair is done free of charge.
The second campaign, D165 (REC-006743), covers a single Range Rover Sport. In that car a crack is already present, so the specified remedy is replacement of the subframe at no charge.
Add the two together and you get the 95 vehicles. The published VIN lists for each notice match those counts: 94 VINs for D166 and one for D165.
Why a cracked subframe is more than a squeak
The subframe is a structural part, not trim. Both notices warn that the weakened structure could leave occupants more exposed to severe or fatal injury if another vehicle hits from behind.
That is why this is not a recall to leave in the glovebox. D166 is an inspection campaign, so owners do not need to diagnose anything themselves. The job is to make sure the inspection actually happens.
The notices do not tell owners to stop driving. If you are unsure what that means for your own car, ask Land Rover directly rather than guessing.
How to check whether your Range Rover Sport is affected
Start with the VIN. Land Rover Australia says it is on a plate visible through the windscreen on the driver's side, and on the certification label in the driver's door opening.
Enter it into Land Rover's product recall search. The company notes that not every car in a model line-up is affected by a given recall, so a model-level headline is not proof either way.
You can also call the Land Rover Customer Relationship Centre on 1800 625 642. Its listed hours are 8:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, with after-hours support from 5:30pm to 8:00pm weekdays and 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday.
Do not let a recall call become a scam
The Department of Infrastructure, which regulates vehicle recalls, has warned about people impersonating dealership representatives and offering to collect cars for outstanding recall work.
Its guidance is that recall repairs are generally done through an in-person appointment at an authorised dealership service centre. If someone offers to collect your Range Rover Sport, check the request using contact details you find yourself, not the ones in the message.
Buying a used Range Rover Sport SV? Make the recall part of the deal
The cars in this recall are young and expensive, which makes recall status a fair thing to negotiate on. That leverage only works if you ask before you pay a deposit.
Ask for the VIN up front and run it through the Land Rover search yourself. If it appears in either campaign, ask for the service-centre invoice or job card showing the inspection, and the subframe repair or replacement if one was needed.
If the work has not been done, make the contract subject to completion of the recall. Be wary of a seller who says it is "just paperwork" or pushes for a quick settlement before the inspection.
A $2 PPSR search is still worth doing. It checks for registered security interests and may include records of theft or a write-off. Recall status is a separate check, so do both.
Recall work is also different from a warranty claim. Land Rover Australia currently advertises a five-year, unlimited-kilometre new-vehicle warranty, and our guide to what a new car warranty actually covers explains where the two overlap and where they do not.
If you are weighing a Range Rover Sport against other prestige or family SUVs, compare what is listed in our used SUVs in Victoria collection, and run the same recall check on anything you shortlist.
Buying new or taking a demonstrator
A Range Rover Sport SV sitting in a showroom or demo fleet can still appear on a VIN list. Before you sign, ask the dealer to confirm in writing whether the VIN appears in D165 or D166, and whether any inspection has been completed.
A verbal "it's all sorted" is not enough on a structural recall. Written confirmation gives you a record of what the seller represented about the recall work. Keep it with the service paperwork.
You can research the wider range on our Range Rover Sport model page before deciding which variant fits your budget.
Compare the car and finance before committing
Carseekers can help you compare pricing on a new Range Rover Sport without doing the dealer rounds yourself, so you can focus on the questions that matter, including recall status, delivery timing and what is actually included.
If you need to finance a car at this price point, Loanseekers can help you compare car-finance options. Rates, terms and approval depend on the vehicle, your situation and each lender's criteria.
The finer details
Your questions answered.
Which Range Rover Sport models are in the subframe recall?
Two notices published on 14 October 2026 cover 95 vehicles. Campaign D166 covers 94 Range Rover Sport SV vehicles, and campaign D165 covers one other Range Rover Sport. Both list a 2023 to 2026 year range, but only the VINs on the published lists are affected.
How do I check if my Range Rover Sport is recalled?
Find your VIN on the plate visible through the windscreen on the driver's side, or on the label in the driver's door opening. Enter it into Land Rover Australia's product recall search, or call the Customer Relationship Centre on 1800 625 642.
Does the Range Rover Sport recall repair cost anything?
No. For campaign D166, Jaguar Land Rover will inspect the car and repair any cracks free of charge. For the single car in campaign D165, the rear subframe will be replaced free of charge.
What is the difference between recalls D165 and D166?
D166 is a precautionary inspection of 94 SV vehicles where cracks may be present, with a free repair if any are found. D165 covers one vehicle where a crack is already present, so the subframe is being replaced outright.
Should I buy a used Range Rover Sport SV with an open recall?
Only with the recall resolved or written into the contract. Check the VIN yourself, ask for the service-centre record of the inspection and any repair, and make the sale subject to completion if the work is still outstanding. Do a PPSR search as well. A PPSR result does not confirm that these subframe recall actions have been completed.
Someone offered to collect my Range Rover for recall work. Is it legitimate?
Be cautious. The federal vehicle recall regulator has warned of scammers posing as dealership staff and offering to collect cars for recall repairs. Recall work is generally done by appointment at an authorised dealership service centre, so verify any request using contact details you find yourself.
