Hyundai has trimmed the price of the 2027 Hyundai Inster by $1500 and cut the range from three grades to two. The mid-spec Extended Range is gone, leaving the entry Standard Range and the flagship Inster Cross.
On paper it is a good week to be shopping for a small electric car. In practice, the deal you actually get depends on stock, the fine print and what the rivals are doing right now.
The 2027 Hyundai Inster price cut, grade by grade
The Inster Standard Range now lists at $37,500 before on-road costs, and the Inster Cross at $43,500. Both are $1500 lower than before.
Hyundai is also advertising drive-away pricing on its own site: $35,990 for the Standard Range and $41,990 for the Inster Cross with sunroof.
Those drive-away figures only apply to new stock with no added options, ordered and delivered between 1 October and 31 December 2026, at participating dealers. Fleet, government and rental buyers are excluded, and the offer cannot be stacked with other deals.
Why the middle grade disappeared
The Extended Range was dropped because it sold more slowly than the other two grades. That matters if you wanted the bigger battery without paying for the Cross styling and extra kit.
The Extended Range's 84.5kW motor and 49kWh battery now only come in the Inster Cross. If you want the extra range, the Cross is now your only option, and that costs more than the Standard Range at list price.
What your money buys in each Inster
The Standard Range uses a 71.1kW/147Nm front motor and a 42kWh battery, good for a claimed 327km of WLTP range.
The Inster Cross gets the 84.5kW/147Nm motor and the 49kWh battery, lifting claimed range to 360km. It also adds 17-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, a sunroof and front seats that fold flat.
Both grades share a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights and Bluelink connected services with over-the-air updates. Hyundai says a 150kW DC fast charger takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes.
The rivals squeezing the Inster on price
The Inster lives in a price bracket that is being attacked from below. The BYD Atto 1 Essential is currently on offer at $19,990 drive-away, which made it Australia's cheapest new car.
That is around $16,000 less than the cheapest Inster deal. The trade-off is range, with the Atto 1 Essential quoting 220km on the WLTP cycle against the Inster's 327km.
At the other end sits the new Honda Super-One, priced from $36,900 drive-away. Its quoted 206km of WLTP range is well short of either Inster.
This is the real story behind the cut. Hyundai has sharpened the Inster just enough to sit below the Super-One, while betting buyers will pay a premium over BYD for range and badge.
What dealers will do with this deal
A manufacturer drive-away offer that only covers new stock is a clear signal. Hyundai wants current Inster stock moved by the end of the year.
Expect some dealers to push the drive-away figure as if it were the best price possible. It is the advertised price, not a floor, and stock levels vary by dealer.
Ask for the offer in writing, confirm the exact grade and colour in stock and compare at least two dealers. If a salesperson steers you to an optioned car the offer does not cover, walk.
Carseekers does that legwork for you. Tell us the Hyundai Inster grade you want and our network of dealers competes on price, so you are not left negotiating alone.
Paying for an Inster without overpaying on finance
A cheaper sticker can be undone by expensive dealer finance. On a $35,990 to $41,990 car, a small difference in interest rate adds up over a five-year loan.
Loanseekers compares 70+ lenders, so you can test the dealer's finance offer on an Inster against the wider market before you sign. It is the same idea as getting the car price checked, applied to the loan.
Is the 2027 Hyundai Inster worth buying now?
If your daily driving is mostly city and suburban, the Standard Range at $35,990 drive-away is the value pick. It offers more range than the Super-One or the Atto 1 Essential, plus Hyundai's seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty when serviced at a Hyundai dealer.
If you regularly cover longer distances, the Cross is now the only way to get the bigger battery. At $41,990 drive-away, compare it carefully with small SUVs at similar money before committing.
Either way, the offer runs out on 31 December 2026. Use the window to get competing quotes rather than rushing the first one you see.
How can Carseekers help?
Carseekers gets dealers to compete for your business on the exact Inster you want, so you see the real best price without the back-and-forth. Pair that with a finance comparison and you have checked both halves of the deal.
The finer details
Your questions answered.
How much is the 2027 Hyundai Inster in Australia?
The 2027 Inster Standard Range lists at $37,500 before on-road costs and the Inster Cross at $43,500, both $1500 less than before. Hyundai is also advertising drive-away offers of $35,990 for the Standard Range and $41,990 for the Cross on new stock ordered and delivered between 1 October and 31 December 2026.
Why did Hyundai drop the Inster Extended Range?
The mid-spec Extended Range was cut for the 2027 model year after it sold more slowly than the other two grades. Its bigger battery and stronger motor live on in the Inster Cross, so buyers who want the extra range now have to step up to the top grade.
What range does the Hyundai Inster have?
Hyundai quotes 327km of WLTP range for the Standard Range with its 42kWh battery, and 360km for the Inster Cross with its 49kWh battery. On a 150kW DC fast charger, Hyundai says the Inster charges from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes.
Is the Hyundai Inster better value than the BYD Atto 1?
On price alone, no. The BYD Atto 1 Essential is on offer at $19,990 drive-away, roughly $16,000 less than the cheapest Inster deal. The Inster answers with more range than the Atto 1 Essential's quoted 220km, and Hyundai's seven-year warranty, so the right pick depends on how far you drive and how long you keep the car.
Can I negotiate below the Hyundai Inster drive-away offer?
The advertised drive-away price is a ceiling, not a floor. It applies to new stock at participating dealers, so check what is actually in the yard, ask for the offer in writing and compare quotes from more than one dealer. Carseekers can run that comparison for you.
Does the Hyundai Inster come with a long warranty?
Yes. Hyundai passenger cars first registered from 1 June 2025 carry a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, provided all scheduled services are done at an authorised Hyundai dealer. Factor that servicing requirement into your running-cost sums.
