Ford Australia has issued a Ford Ranger and Everest recall covering 1,085 vehicles because the centre touchscreen can stop working and go blank. When that happens, the reversing camera image may not appear on the screen while you back up.
The official recall notice, REC-006748, was published on 21 October 2026 under Ford campaign number 26C42. It covers certain 2024 to 2026 model year Rangers and Everests fitted with the 10.1-inch centre display screen.
What goes wrong with the Ranger and Everest screen
Ford puts it down to a manufacturing issue. The centre display may stop functioning and show a blank screen, which takes the rear-view camera image with it.
The hazard is the obvious one. Without the camera image, the risk of hitting someone behind the vehicle while reversing goes up, and the notice warns this could cause serious injury or death.
That is why the camera matters. Check behind the vehicle on foot if you have any doubt, particularly at home where children may be playing.
What Ranger and Everest owners should do now
Ford will write to affected owners and ask them to contact an authorised Ford dealer, which will fix the vehicle free of charge. If you have questions, the notice lists the Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 13 36 73.
Do not rely on the letter alone. The notice includes a downloadable list of the 1,085 affected VINs, so you can compare it with your own vehicle in a few minutes.
If your VIN is on the list, book the work now rather than waiting. Until it is done, use your mirrors and a slow, careful look around the vehicle before every reverse, especially at home.
Buying a used Ranger or Everest? Check these first
The affected vehicles are 2024 to 2026 model years, so they can appear in the used market as late-model stock. A recent build date is not proof of a clean recall history.
Three checks cover this one. Ask for the VIN and compare it with the official list. On the test drive, select reverse and confirm the camera image appears. If the VIN is listed, ask for written proof from a Ford dealer that the recall work has been completed, or make it a condition of sale.
A working screen on the day does not clear the vehicle on its own. The VIN list is the definitive check, because the notice limits the campaign to listed vehicles with the 10.1-inch screen.

Every 2026 Ranger and Everest recall on the register
Our check of the government recall register on 24 October 2026 found six notices published this year that name the Ranger or Everest. Each has its own VIN list, so one clean result does not cover the others.
REC-006541, published 12 February: 244 2022 Rangers and Everests. A software issue may shift the transmission into Park below 6km/h if the battery drops below a critical level, without the brake lights coming on.
REC-006572, published 26 March: 134 2024 to 2025 Rangers and Mustangs. The exhaust gas recirculation valve may fail, which can cut power while driving.
REC-006659, published 13 July: 2,572 Rangers and Everests built from late 2017 to 2019. A software issue may cause transmission fluid pump gears to fail, with a loss of drive.
REC-006683, published 28 July: 136 2019 to 2020 model year Rangers and Everests with the 10R80 transmission, for the same pump gear issue.
REC-006705, published 18 August: 13,907 2026 model year Ranger double cabs. The side curtain airbags may not deploy as intended. We covered the sales fallout in our story on the Ranger airbag recall and August sales slump.
REC-006748, published 21 October: the 1,085 Rangers and Everests with the blank screen fault covered here.
What this means if you are shopping
None of these campaigns makes the Ranger or Everest a bad buy. A recall is the system doing its job, and repairs are free. What it does change is the paperwork you should ask for.
With several campaigns spread across different build years, the easiest approach is to ask for the VIN early and check it against every notice that could apply. A seller who cannot show completed recall work is giving you a reason to ask for the repairs before handover.

The finer details
Your questions answered.
Which Ford Ranger and Everest models are in the October 2026 screen recall?
Recall REC-006748 covers certain 2024 to 2026 model year Rangers and Everests fitted with the 10.1-inch centre display screen. A total of 1,085 vehicles are affected. The official notice includes a VIN list, which is the definitive way to check a specific vehicle.
What is wrong with the Ford Ranger reversing camera?
Due to a manufacturing issue, the 10.1-inch centre screen may stop working and go blank. If that happens, the rear-view camera image may not display while reversing, which increases the risk of hitting someone behind the vehicle.
How much does the Ford Ranger and Everest screen recall fix cost?
Nothing. Ford will write to affected owners and ask them to contact an authorised Ford dealer to have the vehicle rectified free of charge. You can also call the Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 13 36 73.
Should I buy a used Ford Ranger with an open recall?
You can, but check the VIN against every recall notice that could apply and ask for written proof from a Ford dealer that the work has been done. If it has not, make the repair a condition of sale before you hand over any money.
