Hyundai has added a Kona BLK Edition to its small SUV range, and Hyundai's own price calculator lists it at $42,600 before on-road costs. That is $2,650 more than the $39,950 Kona Hybrid Elite it is built on, according to the Hyundai Kona price calculator, checked on 8 November 2026.
A matching Tucson BLK Edition is also listed on Hyundai's site. The useful question for buyers is simple: what does the extra money actually buy, and what does it cost once the car is on the road?
The Kona BLK Edition is a dressed-up Hybrid Elite
Hyundai lists the Kona BLK Edition only with the 1.6-litre hybrid, a six-speed dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive. There is no petrol or electric version, according to the Kona Hybrid page.
Comparing Hyundai's own feature lists for the two hybrid grades, the BLK Edition changes four things:
- 18-inch black alloy wheels and black exterior styling, where the Elite has standard 18-inch alloys - A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, replacing the Elite's 4.2-inch instrument display - Satellite navigation on the 12.3-inch touchscreen - An eight-speaker Bose sound system, replacing the Elite's six speakers
The Elite's leather-appointed seats, heated front seats, wireless charging pad and dual-zone climate control carry over. Hyundai says the BLK Edition comes in five exterior colours.
What $2,650 becomes on a Melbourne road
List prices leave out the costs you actually pay. For Melbourne postcode 3000, Hyundai's calculator estimated these drive-away prices on 8 November 2026:
- Kona Hybrid Elite: $44,769.30 - Kona BLK Edition: $47,528.50 - Kona Hybrid Premium: $51,021.30
The $2,650 list gap grows to $2,759.20 on the road. Stamp duty accounts for the difference. Hyundai's breakdown shows $1,873.20 on the BLK Edition against $1,764.00 on the Elite.
The other on-road items match on both cars: a $1,995 dealer delivery charge, $454.20 registration and $606.10 TAC charge. These are Hyundai's estimates for one postcode, and Hyundai describes its calculator figures as indicative only. Your state, your dealer and any negotiated discount can change the final figure.
BLK Edition or step up to the Kona Premium?
The Kona Hybrid Premium lists at $45,950, which is $3,350 more than the BLK Edition, or $3,492.80 more drive-away in Melbourne on Hyundai's estimates.
The Premium already includes the Bose audio, 12.3-inch digital cluster and satellite navigation that the BLK Edition adds. On top of that, Hyundai lists a power tailgate, a sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and power-adjustable front seats.
So the choice is fairly clean. If you want the black look plus the better screen and sound, the BLK Edition is the cheaper way to get them. If you value comfort features you use every day, price the Premium before you sign.

Tucson BLK Edition: the price is not on Hyundai's calculator yet
Hyundai's Tucson Hybrid page lists a Tucson BLK Edition with the 1.6-litre turbo hybrid, a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.
Its listed equipment includes 19-inch black alloy wheels, a dark chrome grille, an eight-speaker Bose system, a 12.3-inch instrument display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a power tailgate and heated front seats.
The variant did not appear in Hyundai's Tucson price calculator when we checked on 8 November 2026. That same tool showed the Tucson Hybrid Elite FWD at $48,350 before on-road costs, with a $51,490 drive-away offer for Melbourne postcode 3000 running to 31 December 2026.
That offer is your benchmark. Before paying for a Tucson BLK Edition, get its drive-away price in writing and set it against the Elite offer, so you can see exactly what the black styling and extra equipment cost.

Questions to ask before you pay for a special edition
A special edition bundles cosmetic parts with genuine equipment, which makes the true premium harder to see. These questions keep the comparison honest:
- Is the price quoted drive-away, and does it list the dealer delivery charge separately? - What would the base Elite cost from the same dealer on the same day? - Is the paint colour you want included, or an extra-cost option? - Is the car in stock, or would you be waiting for a delivery?
Our dealer accessory bundle checklist helps you separate items you asked for from items added to the quote.
If you would rather weigh a second-hand alternative, compare the used hybrid cars listed in Victoria against a new BLK Edition's drive-away price.
Financing the extra few thousand
The gap between Elite and BLK Edition is small in a single price, but it is still borrowed money if you finance it. Hyundai's own calculator notes that its finance repayment estimates do not include a dealer agency fee of up to $1,495 on consumer loans.
Get the total amount payable in writing before you agree to dealer finance. Loanseekers can help you compare car-finance options, subject to lender criteria, so you can test the dealer's offer against alternatives.
How can Carseekers help?
Carseekers can help you source a new Kona or Tucson and compare dealer quotes, so you know whether a BLK Edition price is fair before you commit. Tell us which grade you are weighing up and we will do the legwork on the drive-away price.
