Mazda just made its big SUVs a lot easier to buy
Mazda has reworked pricing across its entire large SUV family in Australia, and the headline is simple. The CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 are, in most cases, cheaper than they were last week.
Some of the drops are serious. The diesel CX-70 and CX-90 have come down by more than $5000, and the plug-in hybrids have been cut by roughly $7000 each. This is a real repositioning, not a token trim.
Where the money actually comes off
The base petrol CX-60 now starts at $51,640 before on-road costs. The entry 2.5-litre petrol version drops more than $5000 to $45,640.
The CX-70 now opens at $73,020. That is a cut of more than $3000 on the petrol and more than $5000 on the diesel.
Mazda has added a base diesel CX-80 from $56,100. The petrol CX-90 now starts from $66,100, over $3000 cheaper than before.
The plug-in hybrid premium finally shrinks
The most interesting move for buyers is what happened to the plug-in hybrids. The CX-60 PHEV now starts from $56,640, down from $63,790. The CX-80 PHEV drops to $68,100 from $75,750.
Mazda has also aligned its petrol and diesel prices, so the two engines cost the same in each grade. Diesel used to carry a small premium. That penalty is now gone.
Why Mazda is doing this now
None of this is charity. Mazda is currently wearing the highest New Vehicle Efficiency Standard fines of any brand in Australia, because its range leans so heavily on petrol and diesel.
Cheaper, more tempting plug-in hybrids are how it starts to blunt those fines. The large SUV range has also been a slow seller, so shifting metal matters right now.
For buyers, the motive behind the cut is less important than the result. These cars are now priced to move, and that is leverage you can use.
Don't stop reading at the sticker
Remember these figures are all before on-road costs. The advertised number and the drive-away number are two very different things, and the gap is where dealers quietly claw margin back.
Read our breakdown of drive-away versus list price before you sign anything. A price cut resets the floor, it does not end the negotiation.
Slow-selling stock plus fresh factory discounts is exactly the setup where a dealer has room to move further. Push hardest on runout builds and demo units. At Carseekers we would treat the new list prices as the starting line, not the finish.
What else changed on the range
Equipment got a nudge too. The CX-60 and CX-90 now get Front Cross Traffic Brake and Cruising Traffic Support with Driver Emergency Assist as standard, matching the CX-70.
The CX-90 GT picks up the Sports Appearance Package, swapping chrome for gloss black trim and adding black 21-inch alloys. The CX-60 also trades Sonic Silver for a new Polymetal Grey.
If you were already cross-shopping a Toyota Kluger or Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda has just made the maths harder to ignore. Whether that is enough to fix its slow large-SUV sales is the real question.

The finer details
Your questions answered.
How much does the 2026 Mazda CX-60 cost in Australia now?
The cheapest CX-60, powered by the 2.5-litre G25 petrol engine, now starts from $45,640 before on-road costs, a cut of more than $5000. The base 3.3-litre six-cylinder petrol version starts from $51,640, with diesel matched at the same price.
Did the Mazda CX-60 and CX-80 plug-in hybrids get cheaper?
Yes. The CX-60 PHEV now starts from $56,640, down from $63,790, and the CX-80 PHEV starts from $68,100, down from $75,750. Mazda cut both to narrow the gap to its petrol and diesel models by roughly $7000 each.
Is the diesel Mazda CX-70 or CX-90 worth waiting for at the new price?
The diesel CX-70 and CX-90 both dropped by more than $5000, so the value case is much stronger than it was. The CX-70 now starts from $73,020 and the CX-90 petrol from $66,100. Diesel and petrol now cost the same in each grade.
How does the Mazda CX-90 compare with the Toyota Kluger and Hyundai Santa Fe?
Mazda repriced the CX-90 specifically to compete harder with the Kluger and Santa Fe. It undercuts many rivals on its six-cylinder power and now adds more standard safety kit, though it remains a slower seller, which can mean sharper dealer deals.
Should I still negotiate if the price has already been cut?
Absolutely. A factory price cut resets the list price, it does not end the negotiation. These are slow-selling models, so ask about drive-away deals, runout builds and demo units, and always compare the drive-away figure rather than the advertised list price.
What extra equipment do the updated Mazda large SUVs get?
The CX-60 and CX-90 now come standard with Front Cross Traffic Brake and Cruising Traffic Support with Driver Emergency Assist, matching the CX-70. The CX-90 GT gains a Sports Appearance Package with gloss black trim and black 21-inch alloys.
