MG3 Vibe Now $19,990 Drive-Away: Equal-Cheapest New Car

MG has cut the MG3 Vibe to $19,990 drive-away, putting a petrol hatch level with the BYD Atto 1 as Australia's cheapest new car. The catch is the clock: the car has to be sold and delivered by 30 September.

The MG3 Vibe just hit the $19,990 floor

The MG3 Vibe is now $19,990 drive-away, which makes it the equal-cheapest new car in Australia. MG has applied a $1000 cashback to the entry-level hatch, down from its regular $20,990 drive-away price.

That puts the MG3 Vibe level with the BYD Atto 1, which BYD cut to $19,990 drive-away earlier this month. Right now, a buyer with $20,000 can choose between a new petrol car and a new EV at the same price.

The deadline is tighter than it looks

MG's offer only covers cars sold at participating dealers between 11 September and 30 September 2026. The car also has to be delivered in that window, not just ordered.

That detail matters. If your dealer does not have a Vibe in stock in the colour you want, a sale signed on the 29th with delivery in October may not qualify. Ask the dealer to confirm in writing that your car is physically on the lot and can be delivered before the offer closes.

Fleet, government and rental buyers are excluded, so this deal is aimed squarely at private buyers.

What $19,990 actually buys you

The Vibe uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 81kW and 142Nm, driven through a CVT automatic to the front wheels. MG quotes combined fuel use of 6.0L/100km.

Inside there is a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 7-inch digital instrument display. The MG Pilot safety suite brings autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.

The Vibe rides on 15-inch steel wheels with fabric seats and a reverse camera. Blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert are reserved for the Excite and above, which is the main thing you give up by buying the cheapest one.

Should you step up to the Excite?

The MG3 Excite is currently $23,990 drive-away and the Essence is $25,990 drive-away. That is a $4000 jump to the Excite, which adds 16-inch alloys, push-button start, keyless entry and the extra blind spot safety tech.

For a first car or a city runabout, the Vibe covers the basics. If you do a lot of motorway lane changes, the blind spot monitoring on the Excite is worth weighing up before you sign.

The MG3 Hybrid+ is a different proposition again. It makes 155kW combined and the Essence Hybrid+ has a $500 cashback of its own, bringing it to $30,490 drive-away.

Petrol or electric at the same price

The Atto 1 and MG3 Vibe now share a sticker price, but they suit very different buyers. The Atto 1 makes sense if you can charge at home and mostly drive around town.

The MG3 Vibe suits buyers who rent, park on the street, or regularly drive long country distances where charging is less convenient. There is no range planning, and a fill-up takes five minutes anywhere in Australia.

The BYD offer also runs longer, through to 15 December 2026, while MG's closes at the end of September. If you are cross-shopping, the MG deal is the one on the clock.

MG has cut more than just the MG3

The MG4 EV Urban Essence 43 carries a $2000 cashback, bringing it to $29,990 drive-away. The Urban Essence 54 gets the same cashback and is now $32,990 drive-away. We covered the MG4 Urban deal in detail here.

How dealers play end-of-month cashback deals

A manufacturer cashback is a floor, not a ceiling. Dealers are chasing monthly and quarterly targets at the end of September, and 30 September is also the end of a quarter.

That gives you room to ask for extras such as tinting, floor mats or a full tank, even on a car that is already heavily discounted. What you should not accept is a dealer quietly clawing the saving back through inflated add-ons or a pricey finance package.

If you would rather skip the haggling, Carseekers can get dealers competing for your business on an MG3, so you know the price you pay is genuinely sharp.

Do not lose the saving on finance

On a $19,990 car, the finance deal can easily cost more than the $1000 cashback is worth. A high dealer interest rate over five years will wipe out the discount and then some.

Before you sign anything in the showroom, compare the dealer's offer with Loanseekers, which compares 70+ lenders so you can see whether the dealer's rate is actually competitive. Going in with a pre-approval also gives you a stronger hand when you negotiate the car price itself.

The finer details

Your questions answered.

How much is the MG3 Vibe in Australia right now?

The MG3 Vibe is $19,990 drive-away after a $1000 cashback from MG, down from its regular $20,990 drive-away price. That makes it the equal-cheapest new car in Australia alongside the BYD Atto 1.

When does the MG3 $19,990 offer end?

The offer covers cars sold and delivered at participating MG dealers between 11 September and 30 September 2026. Delivery has to happen in that window, so confirm stock is on the lot before you commit.

What engine does the MG3 Vibe have?

The MG3 Vibe uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 81kW and 142Nm, paired with a CVT automatic and front-wheel drive. MG quotes combined fuel use of 6.0L/100km.

Is the MG3 Vibe or BYD Atto 1 the better cheap car?

Both are $19,990 drive-away, so it comes down to how you drive. The Atto 1 suits buyers who can charge at home and drive mostly in town. The MG3 Vibe suits renters, street parkers and anyone doing long regional trips where refuelling is easier than charging.

Can I negotiate on top of the MG3 cashback?

Often, yes. The cashback comes from MG, and the end of September is also the end of a quarter, when dealers push hardest for targets. Ask for extras like tinting or mats, and watch for add-ons or dealer finance that claw the saving back.

What safety features does the base MG3 Vibe get?

The Vibe gets the MG Pilot suite with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, plus a reverse camera. Blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert are only on the Excite and above.
