Subaru Solterra & Trailseeker Get Second Price Cut

Subaru Australia has trimmed prices on its Solterra mid-size electric SUV and Trailseeker extended-length electric wagon by up to $4,000, in the brand's second EV price cut in six months. The move levels Subaru's pricing with its Toyota siblings, the bZ4X and bZ4X Touring, and lands the same day the smaller Uncharted opened for Australian orders.

Effective 14 May 2026, the Solterra range now sits $2,000 lower at $61,990 to $67,990 plus on-road costs. The Touring grade at $67,990 now matches the Toyota bZ4X AWD counterpart exactly. The Trailseeker takes the bigger cut at $4,000, with the base AWD from $63,990 and the AWD Touring at $69,990, both now matching the related top-of-the-range bZ4X Touring's RRP.

Why Subaru cut again

The facelifted Solterra arrived in late 2025 with prices up to $7,000 lower than the model it replaced. That cut was significant, but Toyota's pricing on the related bZ4X remained more aggressive. Australian buyers who cross-shopped a Solterra against a bZ4X were finding the same hardware on a Toyota badge for less.

The Trailseeker faced a similar problem against the Toyota bZ4X Touring. Both vehicles share platforms, motors, batteries and safety systems. Subaru tunes the suspension and adds its X-Mode off-road logic, but the mechanical core is identical. With $4,000 between the two badges on the same hardware, buyers were defaulting to Toyota's broader dealer network and brand recognition in the EV space.

The May 2026 cut closes that gap. Subaru's pricing now matches Toyota's on a like-for-like basis, which forces the buying decision back onto badge preference, dealer experience and Subaru's adventure-brand positioning.

What this means for existing owners

Subaru's media release acknowledged the awkwardness of cutting prices on cars buyers had only recently taken delivery of. "Customers who have recently placed orders or are in the process of completing a purchase are encouraged to contact their Subaru Retailer for further guidance on how this update may apply to their purchase," the brand said.

In plain English, Subaru is not committing to a blanket refund. Dealers will handle this case by case. Buyers who took delivery in the past 60 days have the strongest position to negotiate something. Push for one of the following: cash refund equivalent to the cut, free servicing for five years, complimentary tinting and floor mats, or a registration credit. Dealers will lean toward accessories and service credits because those cost them less than cash.

Anyone with an order placed but not yet delivered should absolutely request the new price. The deal is not done until you take delivery.

How the Solterra and Trailseeker fit alongside the new Uncharted

The May 2026 announcement also opens orders for the Subaru Uncharted, the brand's smallest EV at $59,990 plus on-road costs. The full Subaru EV line-up now reads cleanly:

Uncharted at $59,990. Compact, dual-motor AWD, 522km WLTP range, twinned with the Toyota C-HR+ due in 2027.

Solterra at $61,990 to $67,990. Mid-size, dual-motor AWD, twinned with the Toyota bZ4X. The standard family EV in the range.

Trailseeker at $63,990 to $69,990. Extended-length, dual-motor AWD, twinned with the Toyota bZ4X Touring. The longer-wheelbase wagon-style option with more rear-passenger and cargo space.

Resale impact

This is the second price cut in six months. Buyers of the original pre-facelift Solterra have watched their cars drop in nominal value by around $9,000 to $11,000 in less than a year. Trade-in valuations will reflect that. A 2024-build Solterra with 12,000km will struggle to clear $45,000 in retail trade values by the second half of 2026.

This is a brutal but increasingly normal reality across Australian EVs. Tesla, Polestar, Volvo and now Subaru have all cut prices repeatedly through 2025 and 2026. Buyers who chase early adoption through cash purchase pay the depreciation. Buyers who lease or novate are largely insulated.

The Toyota factor

For cross-shoppers, the new Subaru pricing creates a genuine decision matrix. Identical hardware. Different brands. Different dealer networks. Different warranty experiences. Different resale curves.

Toyota has the larger dealer network and the stronger general resale reputation in Australia. Subaru has the outdoor-focused brand identity and a dedicated EV calibration through X-Mode. The Toyota bZ4X has a five-star ANCAP rating. The Solterra carries the same rating. Servicing intervals are 12 months for Toyota and Subaru. Battery warranties match at 8 years or 160,000km.

If you already drive a Subaru Forester or Subaru Outback, the Solterra and Trailseeker fit naturally into your existing service relationship. If you have no Subaru history, the Toyota equivalents are arguably the smarter buy on dealer convenience alone.

What about further cuts?

Subaru is unlikely to cut RRP again before the new financial year. Two cuts in six months is enough to reset the conversation. However, dealer-level drive-away discounting is highly probable through the EOFY window in late June 2026.

Watch for $1,500 to $3,000 drive-away offers, accessory bundles, registration paid, and complimentary first-service deals. These are easier for dealers to absorb than further RRP cuts.
