Bigger wheels should be compared as part of an exact wheel, tyre and suspension package. Do not assume the largest wheel listed for a model will suit your roads or give the ride you prefer.
Transport for NSW's wheel-and-tyre guidance explains that changes can affect road behaviour and sets conditions for alternative fitments in NSW. Factory options and aftermarket changes still need the correct specification for the actual car and the applicable local rules.
Compare the package the dealer will supply
Record the wheel size, complete tyre specification, tyre make and model, suspension version and vehicle variant for each test car. Ask which of those details will be on your purchased vehicle.
If the demonstrator has different tyres or suspension, record the mismatch. A drive in one specification cannot establish the ride of another simply because the model name is the same.
Our CX-60 ride-update article is a reminder to check the fitted build and suspension specification. Apply that discipline to the wheel package as well.
Use a matched-route comfort check
Arrange lawful test drives on the same familiar route where possible. Include the ordinary surfaces you use, drive at appropriate speeds and keep passengers and load reasonably comparable.
Before driving, have the seller confirm cold tyre pressures against the vehicle instructions. Do not alter pressures outside those instructions to make one test car feel softer.
After each drive, record your observations of sharp impacts, rough-surface comfort and noise. Label them as your experience in those conditions, not proof that wheel diameter alone caused the difference.
Price suitable replacement tyres now
Ask a tyre supplier for current written quotes for each approved package. Include the exact tyre, load and speed ratings, fitment, balancing, disposal and monitoring-system costs where relevant.
A hypothetical comparison makes the budget visible: four suitable tyres at $250 each total $1000; four at $350 total $1400. The illustrated difference is $400 for the set, before any different fitting charges.
Those are invented inputs for arithmetic, not typical Australian prices. They do not establish wear life, replacement frequency or which tyre performs better. Replace them with comparable quotes.
Choose the option that suits your use
Keep comfort, approved fitment and replacement cost as separate answers. Seek manufacturer and specialist advice before changing to an unlisted size or a different wheel package.
If the option price changes your vehicle budget, compare the written purchase totals before discussing repayments. For car-finance information, visit Loanseekers with the purchase total for the exact wheel and vehicle package you choose.
